Wondering how can you get the most out of your SMPS membership? With 12 different committees to choose from, depending on what skills you have to contribute or what skills you’d like to learn, there is a place for you to contribute. Spend some time with the SMPS community and you’ll hear over and again that the best way to make meaningful connections and learn new skills is by joining a committee. The Utah Chapter is organized into the following committees:

PROGRAMS
Programs Committee members organize the Chapter’s monthly luncheon program. The luncheon program typically focuses on industry-specific topics involving prominent industry leaders, public officials, media figures, etc. surrounding potential project opportunities and trends. Committee members help determine program topics and secure speakers, for the entire organization.

This is the perfect committee for you to join if you wish to directly engage with high profile clients, learn more about the agencies and firms leading new development in our region, or hone your skills in developing professional programming for the AEC industry.

Kimberly (Kim) Johnson, CPSM has over 20 years experience as a Professional Services Marketer for the AEC industry. She has served as President of SMPS Utah, Co-Chair of the SMPS Southwest Regional Conference, and on the SMPS Board of Directors in various positions. Kim is proud to lead the marketing and business development efforts for structural engineering firm, Calder Richards, in Salt Lake City, UT.
Why Join This Committee?
The Education Committee members have the opportunity to develop content and organize programs, interact with other committees, and support the chapter in educating marketers, business developers and principals.
EDUCATION
The Education Committee provides market-focused educational programs to members and non-members, marketers and technical staff in the built environment. After soliciting a survey to the membership, Education Committee members focus each of their four educational programs around the six Domains of Practice.
COMMUNICATIONS
The Communications Committee manages internal and external communication of the Utah Chapter. The committee is primarily responsible for the design and maintenance of the chapter web site. Other duties include publicizing activities of chapter committees through the SMPS Utah web site, printed flyers and e-mail. This committee also promotes awareness of the SMPS Utah Chapter through press releases to local publications to promote events and member accomplishments.

The Communications Committee members have the opportunity to hone their digital marketing skills, express their creativity, and better understand the organization by working with all other committees throughout the year to help promote all of the Chapter’s initiatives.

Kim McDonough, CPSM, is a proposal management professional with more than 25 years of experience in the AEC industry. She is especially motivated by the AEC industry’s ability to contribute positively to communities through projects that make a lasting, tangible impact.

Volunteering on the Membership Committee provides great opportunities to network with the entire membership on a personal and professional level, to help develop the chapter, and contribute to ongoing chapter success.
MEMBERSHIP
Members of the Membership Committee play a key role in actively promoting membership in SMPS. In addition to maintaining an accurate listing of Chapter members, the committee is responsible for researching current membership opportunities and investigating member retention. Other activities include coordinating and implementing the yearly membership drive, driving the mentor program and publishing and distributing the membership directory.
SPONSORSHIP
Committee members solicit sponsorship for our organization through opportunities with our monthly and educational programs, special events and Platinum & Gold Level Sponsors. Committee members also coordinate with the Program and Education committees and act as a liaison to sponsors during events.

Joining the Sponsorship Committee allows individual members to develop relationships with all SMPS Members, firms, industry professionals, as well as affiliate companies. The Sponsorship Committee members develop a relationship with that contact and firm throughout the year, helping them get the most of their benefits and participation and ensuring they see the value of renewing their commitment to the chapter in years ahead. Sponsorship Committee members enjoy a tremendous sense of satisfaction as they provide sponsors opportunities to grow their businesses and allow the chapter to flourish. Committee members interact with virtually every other committee in the chapter.

Our committee creates networking and social environments that attract hundreds of professionals, just like you, to ditch the office scene and have some fun. We are the social component within the Chapter, and the planning of each of our events requires reaching out to the membership as a whole. If you enjoy planning and hosting events, meeting new chapter members, and task-specific assignments, this is the committee for you.
SPECIAL EVENTS
Special Events is responsible for planning, coordinating and facilitating our Chapter’s most anticipated events: Member-only Socials, Charity Golf Tournament, Holiday Gala and Winter Day. The Special Events committee also orchestrates the annual Marketing Communications and Marketer of the Year Awards programs.
